Colfax County Contacts

This is a private reference site, not a Colfax County government office. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, release a detainee, post bond, schedule a visit, accept money, or pull official booking records. Use the official offices below for those tasks.

Official Places to Start

Colfax County does not publish an official public jail roster in the research materials reviewed for this project. For a new arrest or current county custody question, start with the Vigil-Maldonado Detention Center. For sheriff records or arrest-agency direction, use the Colfax County Sheriff's Office. Court charges and bond information belong with the Colfax County district or magistrate court handling the case.

Raton, NM 87740

Eighth Judicial District Attorney

District Attorney Marcus J. Montoya
Colfax office: 220 4th Avenue
Raton, NM 87440

Phone: (575) 445-5516
Fax: (575) 445-0737

The district attorney prosecutes state criminal cases for Colfax, Taos, and Union counties. Contact the DA office for prosecution-related public information or victim-service direction, not for jail release decisions.

Choose the office by the type of record or custody status:

  • For someone who may be in the county jail, begin with jail inmate records and the VMDC phone number.
  • For a booking photo question, read the jail roster mugshots page and ask the correct records custodian whether an IPRA request is required.
  • For charges filed after arrest, use court records after a jail arrest and the appropriate Colfax court.
  • For a specific detention location, use the facility pages listed in the footer.
  • For a sentenced New Mexico state prisoner, use the New Mexico Corrections Department offender search and facility contacts.
  • For federal prison or immigration detention, use the Bureau of Prisons locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
